Most people have heard the terms “conscious sedation” or “sleep dentistry” before. These terms are very general and we would like to better clarify these forms of relaxation.

“Conscious sedation” refers to at least three medical forms of relaxation: Light, Moderate and Deep sedation. Beyond these three forms of conscious sedation, is “General Anesthesia” or "IV sedation" wherein the patient is commonly sedated through the use of intravenous medicines and this is often done in the hospital.

The form of relaxation I am offering is the “Light” sedation. It is formally referred to as “relaxation or anxiety-free dentistry” and involves taking a medication commonly prescribed by your physician for anxiety. In RELAXATION DENTISTRY, the goal is not to put the patient asleep, but to achieve a state of relaxation wherein the patient is not aware of the procedure taking place.

RELAXATION DENTISTRY requires the use of two different drugs, taken in a pill form, one the night before and one the day of the procedure. In combination, the drugs help the patient achieve a supreme state of relaxation and little or no memory of the procedure.
